Goals

Output:

  • A compilation of the legal principles in the participating countries on national, regional and local level.
  • A list with the requirements on the technique of soil evaluation from the view of various users from municipalities of various sizes and countries.
  • A procedure for evaluating soil functions and soil degradation.
  • A manual describing the application of the soil evaluation technique to different planning procedures as a planning tool.
  • Various plans and planning procedures or schemes being carried out with the new technique as a pilot project.
  • A catalogue of implementation strategies.
  • Internet platform, flyers, brochures and reports, conferences for users and experts.
  • Final report and conclusions.

Results:

  • Enabling municipal planners to evaluate soil functions and to consider soil issues in planning procedures.
  • Sensitising politicians and citizens for soil functions and the sustainable use of land and soil resources.
  • Integration of applied preventive soil protection in spatial planning, integration into local planning and permission procedures.
  • Cooperation of scientific institutions, local planning and environmental authorities and citizens.

Impacts:

  • Reduction of soil and land consumption and of soil pollution.
  • Enhancement of the significance of soil protection in local acting.
  • Promotion of transnational exchange of experience and knowledge.
  • Harmonisation of handling with soil in planning procedures in Alpine Space towards a balanced and sustainable spatial and settlement development.
  • Support of a sustainable further development of economy, trade and commerce in Alpine Space.

Target groups are all parties who have influence on the condition of soils and their development.

Goals of the TUSEC – IP project are:

  • the economic development under aspects of soil protection with the aim of directing economic development to spatially more potent and ecologically compatible locations;
  • promoting soil-protecting urban planning concepts;
  • offering a higher degree of legal and time-related planning security which creates incentives for investment;
  • establishing a procedure for the evaluation of soil functions and implementation of results within the framework of municipal activities;
  • under consideration of legal differences in the participating countries, in particular on the local level;
  • promoting awareness and promotion of soil and soil protection issues on all political levels.
